Competition project for city/waterfront

The main aim of this project, which passed to the second step of the international competition, is to encourage the relationship/reciprocity between the port and the urban structure, by creating a large system of public spaces.

This system, that will be rich in services, attractions and equipments will create a new large and various relationship between the community of Vado Ligure and the sea; it will also structure new strategies of urban, economic, social, and environmental development.

The project deals with two surfaces: one is hard, artificial, and mainly made of stone with some inserts of high, green, fluidly shaped dunes; the other one is natural and changeable, using sea water that floods onto the river mouth that becomes a dynamic mirror able to extend and diversify the built-up area of the waterfront.

In this way we obtain completely accessible, usable, hierarchy-free spaces, suitable for the creation of a new urban centre in a renewed ecological way of living. The existing built-up area discovers a new waterfront to widen its horizon.
