Arezzo – Redevelopment of a square
Projects | Landscape ArchitectureCompetition for the redevelopment of Piazza Sant’Agostino
The intent of the project, that ranked 4th at the international competition, is to create a mostly paved surface, in which the design of some linear elements works as a dynamic and supple spine where spatial, functional events can happen, following one after the other.
Some travertine elements, harmoniously connected to the slope of the ground and the surrounding space, are embedded on a pietra serena base. They clearly recall the ancient, historical route of the via Sacra, and unfold as if it was the thread of a story that only people living there could write.
The intervention is related to the prestigious urban context in order to create a totally accessible and usable space that will be homogeneous and with a strict hierarchy; in this way it can be used as a stage for different urban events, according to citizens’ flexible, sustainable use and their changeable needs in time and space. In this way we obtain a space open onto a new urban, economic, social and environmental vitality, during different hours of the day and throughout the four seasons.
